Souderton, Tylersport, Earlington
1998 marked the year Souderton became world famous. That was the year of the first Univest Grand Prix, a 105-mile road race that begins and ends in Souderton and draws participants from all over the world. Held the third Saturday in September, amateur cyclists come from all over the world to compete and now use the Univest Grand Prix as a proving ground for the professional competitions held worldwide. The year 2002 saw the first U.S. winner of the popular bicycle race.
Another wonderful feature about Souderton is the new Montgomery Theater on Main Street. Considered the keystone in a revitalization effort in the community, the theater opened a new stage at the beginning of 2003 after spending several years on stage in the basement of the building, which is the old firehouse. Renovations were completed, the new marquee was put in place, and the theater is thriving with performances of such plays and musicals as "Tommy, the Rock Opera" and "The Grapes of Wrath." The theater also has a thriving children's workshop in the summer, as well as more cutting edge theater on the Project Stage, the old stage the group previously used in the basement.
Nestled in the verdant Indian Valley, Souderton promotes high standards and values with its "Character Counts!" program, brings in musical entertainers throughout the summer with its Concert Sundaes in the Park, and also hosts the high spirited Indian Valley Soap Box Derby race down Main Street the first Saturday in June.
The Senior Adult Activity Center of Indian Valley on Second Street is considered a town treasure and the Broad Theatre is a landmark that is still operating today. Showing first-run movies, it is one of the oldest movie houses in the area.
